As a homeowner your're interested in keeping your property looking its best. A healthy landscape looks nice, but
there is far more to a healthy landscape than meets the eye.
Consider these points...
- A 50 ft. by 50 ft. lawn provides enough OXYGEN daily to meet the needs of a family of four.
- A healthy lawn uses up carbon dioxide - reducing greenhouse gases in our atmosphere.
- Grass COOLS naturally. In fact, eight average-sized lawns have the cooling effect of about 70 tons of air
conditioning (the average household central air conditioning unit produces only about three tons).
- A well maintained landscape could BOOST THE VALUE of you home by as much as 15 per cent.
- Grasses reduce undesirable NOISE LEVELS by 30 to 50 percent.
- A healthy lawn will absorb and purify RAINWATER. The lawn will return moisture back to the water table where is
can again be used by everyone.
In addition weed-free lawns:
- remove pollutants from the air,
- prevent water and wind erosion and the loss of precious topsoil,
- reduce pollen and other allergens,
- reduce the likelihood of insect bites and stings,
- absorb and reduce glare,
- act as a cushioned surface for outdoor activity and sports.
Our trees provide us with shade, privacy, and shelter. They use up carbon dioxide and replace it with fresh oxygen.
It is everyone's responsibility to maintain and protect these plants that protect our environment.
What Happens to Pesticides in the Environment?
Today's environmentally friendly pesticide technologies are less toxic, more target specific and more biodegradable.
Many of the new plant protection products are completely biodegradable within two weeks of application. Ultimately,
they break down into basic natural elements such a s oxygen, carbon dioxide and water.
A product must be biodegradable in order to receive registration for use in Canada.
Why is it Necessary to Post a "Pesticides in Use" Sign on My Lawn?
Ensuring that the use of pesticides poses minimal risk to humans and the environment is paramount to both groups.
Posting a lawn brings it to our attention that the lawn has been sprayed. Our customers are given additional
information that is posted on their door with regards to any precautions if any need to be taken. When those
precautions are taken, any possible health risk is basically reduced to NIL.
Just an interesting note: Our industry has one of the lowest insurance premiums with the Workplace Safety &
Insurance Board. If pesticide applicators were getting ill, our premiums would not be so low.
