Spider Control (Exterior)
Although many spiders are considered beneficial insects, they are not very popular in Essex County due to the mess
they make with their webbing, and fecal deposits. Poisonous spiders such as the Black Widow and Brown Recluse are
present in Essex County but are seldom encountered.
Our spider control application is designed to kill the adult spiders that it comes into contact with, and leave a
residue that will control newly hatched spiders, and newcomers that cross the treated area at a later time. The
residual control lasts for about 21 days. After 21 days spiders can again be introduced from other nearby buildings,
trees, shrubs, etc. Therefore a second application may be required later on in the season depending on the spider
population in your neighborhood, food supply, weather, etc., in that given year. We GUARANTEE your house
will not be re-infested with spiders for a period of 30 days. **PLEASE NOTE** We will notify our customers who
order this service in advance by phone or in writing, before treatment. In the case that you require immediate
attention just give us a call, and we will be there promptly.
NEW! Starting spring 2002 we will be using a new
product for outdoor spider control on homes. The active ingredient of this product is called permethrin. It
comes in many different trade names such as "Prelude", "Dragnet", "Pounce", etc. I have
used it the past year on our own home and am very pleased with the results. Here are some of the main benefits:
- very low odour
- very low in toxicity to mammals
- it's already used extensively in the pet care industry
- biodegradable
- superior spider control
- as a new product to the spider control industry, there has been no chance for spiders to build up a resistance to it
- controls cluster flies as well (if applied in August)
The product that we used in the past for spider control was called chloypyfios. It was commonly known as
"Dursban". Dursban was voluntarily removed from the market by the pesticide industry and is no longer
available to anyone. It was removed in order to make way for the use of what are called
"least risk pesticides". Permethrin is one of these.
Whenever an effective "least risk pesticide" is developed, it usually replaces the older product. This is
of benefit to us all in the long run.
